Cosmetic Laser

Cynosure Apogee Elite is a two-in-one laser system that combines a high power Alexandrite laser (operating at 755 nm) and Nd: YAG laser (operating at 1064 nm). The lasers are primarily used for hair removal and for the treatment of facial and leg veins, but can also be used for the treatment of pigmented lesions and treatment of sun-damaged skin.

At the time of the initial visit, Dr. Sapadin will inform patients about the treatment and determine if the patient qualifies for the laser treatment based on age, skin type, medical history and medications.

Laser hair removal will permanently reduce unwanted hair (depending on skin and hair color) with decreased frequency of other hair removal methods such as shaving, waxing etc.  Optimal results are expected with six to eight sessions.

Depending on the patient’s skin color, test spots prior to treatment is recommended. The number and length of treatment sessions depends on the size of the treatment area, the success rate of the treatment, and the patient’s tolerance of the treatment.

  1. Hyperpigmentation (dark spots) or hypopigmentation (white spots) in treatment area may be experienced and typically lasts three to six weeks. Avoid sun exposure for two weeks after treatment to reduce chance of hyperpigmentation. Use non-comedogenic sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) during the entire treatment time (4-8 sessions).
  1. Hair shedding in treated area is expected up to 21 days following treatment. This is often mistaken as new growth because hair appears darker. Do not pick or irritate treated area. Use an exfoliating sponge 4 days after treatment to help with the shedding process.

  1. Makeup may be used immediately after treatment unless there is a burn/blister.
  1. Local anesthetic prior to laser treatment may increase the incidence of adverse effects, such as burns, erythema and blistering.
